The Indian market is overflowing with smartphones from all major manufacturers. There can only be one winner in 2021, and without any surprises, it’s Xiaomi. However, the interesting facts do not end there.
In 2021, smartphone sales in India amounted to 169 million units – statistics from Counterpoint Research point to a record number in the country’s mobile history. Xiaomi has taken the lead.
A solid 24% in the overall classification confirms the effectiveness of quick and numerous launches of smartphones from the cheap segment. It has long been known that it is the mid-range and reasonably priced models that sell best in India – and Realme knows this too, which in 2021 overtook OPPO to take fourth place.
Samsung was in second place, and due to the withdrawal of the Note series, fewer premieres in the lower segment and problems with the supply of components, it could not compete for victory with Xiaomi. Vivo ranks third in India, same as last year.
In 2021, manufacturers offering their smartphones in India could count on strong demand, but the real scale of it will only be seen this year, when more models with folding screens come to the fore. A 388% year-on-year increase in sales of Samsung foldable devices shows that users are willing to buy them.
